When animals grow older they experience similar changes to those of older people. These include weight changes, arthritis, incontinence, sleepnessness and heart problems.
 
These are often assumed to be a normal part of old age. However with suitable changes to diet, exercise or appropriate medication, many of these problems can be controlled.

The earlier that health problems are detected the better we can treat them, giving your pets a longer and happier life. Regular examinations are vital, but blood and urine testing can also show 'hidden' diseases that could otherwise progress and cause more serious problems if not treated. We recommend that animals over 8 years old are examined at least twice each year even if they appear healthy.

We feel that early detection is so important that we offer Senior Health Assessments. A discussion with a nurse will help to highlight areas of concern, followed by a full physical examination by the vet. Blood and urine testing gives us information on liver, kidney and thyroid function plus can show warning signs of diabetes and some cancers.
